Portrait Mia Lerssi

Mia Lerssi (1972) is a Danish independent visual artist and crafts woman, working in the expanded field of craft, art and design. In her work she looks for the aesthetic qualities of glass; as material, as concept, as form, as transparency and as eye candy. Her focus is on material culture, material identity and material sensuality. Especially material sensuality is the core of her work, and reflects in many ways on social structures and personal matters. She uses personal experiences and human interactions as fuel for her work. Mia has exhibited at various museums, events and art fairs fx. Glasmuseet Ebeltoft – Denmark, Glazen Huis Lommel – Belgium and Mindcraft-Danish Craft, Milano – Italy. Mia has pieces in various collections.

In 2014 Mia moved from Amsterdam to Bornholm in Denmark, where she now live and work. For a period of 10 years, from 2003 – 2013 Mia lived in Amsterdam/Holland where she achieved her MFA degree from The Sandberg Institute in Amsterdam,  and afterwards lectured the glass dep. of The Gerrit Rietveld Academie from 2008- 2012. She has her foundation in traditional Swedish glass blowing skills that she achieved from 1995-1998 at the Kosta Glass School in Sweden.

Alongside her career as an artist she has been external examiner and guest teacher on glass educations in Europe. She is on the board of the Arts and Crafts Association of Bornholm, ACAB, and for ACAB she is on the board of the Craft Center Grønbechsgård on Bornholm, Denmark.
