Solo Show w. Muyngso Seo and Maria Dukers

BRIGHT LIGHT

Three artist, three institutions, one material on display at ING House, Amsterdam.

Bright. Transparent. Vulnerable. Handcrafted. Reflective. These are all characteristics of glass. In ING House, artwork was on display from three glass artists: Myungsu Seo (South Korea), Mia Lerssi (Denmark) and Maria Dukers (Belgium). They each use the material in totally different ways: Dukers uses glass for more architectural forms, while Seo emphasises the natural aspects of it. Lerssi emphasise the intense sensual meeting that is taking place when we experience colours, shapes and the tactile quality of materials.

Three institutions have come together for this exhibition: an art academy (Gerrit Rietveld Academie), a museum (National Glasmuseum Leerdam) and ING Insurance. Dukers and Seo displayed their artwork in the National Glasmuseum Leerdam. In fact Dukers work was the result of an assignment from the museum itself. Lerssi is teaching at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie (almost neighbours to ING House) and was Seos teacher when she studied there.

ING House-with its unique design-is the right place to have this exhibition, both innovative and transparent.
